The Community Center

COMMUNITY DANCE
The Community Dance is a smoke and alcohol free DJ dance event held every two weeks in the East Bay open to all people of all ages. It is a safe and friendly place for the Sacred Center community to come together on the dance floor, free of judgments and attitude, a space where you can look and dance however you want. Come with friends, come with family, come with your partner, or come alone. Dance for fun, dance to be social, dance for the trance, dance for ecstasy, dance to connect with the sacred, or dance for any reason.

The Community Dance is influenced by the rave scene - its music, its visuals, its vibe, its inclusivity, its spirituality, its alternative and transformational values. Accordingly, most of the music is electronic dance music - progressive, trance, house, techno, tribal, drum n bass, jungle, breaks, downtempo, and ambient. The DJs, musicians, and artists are drawn primarily from our own thriving local talent pool, giving everyone the opportunity to share their craft with

their community. However, guest DJs, musicians, and artists are also featured from time to time, so that we can connect with other communities and get a taste of other styles. Visuals include innovative lighting, projections, decorations, and altars. In addition to the main dance floor, there is also a chill room in which to hang out and relax, with soft lighting, cushions, and downtempo/ ambient music.

While we acknowledge our connection with the rave scene, the Community Dance is not a rave and is not limited to its music, culture, and aesthetic. There is a huge array of other types of music - rock, funk, soul, hip hop, African, Middle Eastern, Indian, Brazilian, Caribbean, Celtic, Balkan etc., and various hybrids - for DJs and musicians to draw from. We also strongly encourage the performance of original musical compositions from community members as well. The main component tying all of this music together, however, is that is has a danceable groove and can move people on the dance floor.
