The Sacred Center is an educational foundation dedicated to helping people find and follow their true spiritual path within the complexities of life in the twenty-first century. Our approach is wide-ranging and inclusive, drawing on the wisdom of traditional religious teachings and practices, creative expression in the arts, and cutting edge developments in popular culture. A variety of programs – classes, workshops, retreats, performances, rituals, community gatherings, interactive events, experimental groups --offer gateways into a direct experience of the sacred, and tools for integrating this experience into daily life. A highly respected faculty of internationally and locally known teachers & religious lineage-holders spiritual practitioners, scholars, artists, and explorers & bring a quality of depth and engagement to Sacred Center events that encourages understanding and transformation.

There are three primary divisions of The Sacred Center, each with its own area of concern. The School for Religious Studies and Spiritual Practice focuses on religious traditions from around the world, with lineage-holders and scholars providing both discursive teaching and experiential practice. The School for the Sacred Arts focuses on artistic expression as a spiritual path and a means of connecting with the sacred, with artists and scholars teaching the history and craft of specific art forms and providing opportunities for students to create their own art. The Community Center is an open space in which to hold events that arise from the vision and resources of the Sacred Center community - DJ dances, concerts, poetry readings, ceremonies, avant-garde performances, medi- tations, etc. These three divisions interact with each other in a synergistic way, creating a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, with the sacred at the center of everything we do.

The Sacred Center is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, a region well-known for its unparalleled combination of natural beauty and diverse cultural resources, and for its rich tradition of cutting edge alternative spirituality. Many of the faculty and participants are Bay Area residents and one of our goals is to foster a spiritual community here that we can draw on as an ongoing resource in our day-to-day lives. At the same time, the Sacred Center is also connected to many similar communities throughout California, the US, and the whole world, and we see ourselves as part of a larger global network working for the spiritual transformation of the entire planet. There are serious crises facing all of humanity at this time in history that the old forms are no longer able to adequately address. The Sacred Center seeks to create new forms that reflect the rapidly changing landscape of the new millennium, and provide a spiritual path through it. We invite you to join us in this endeavor.
